A number of Pablo Picasso's artworks produced during the late 1950's show views through a window or over a balcony, inspired by the layout of his studio in the French seaside town of Cannes. These balcony views, which often include drawings of pigeons and other birds, pay homage to Picasso's friend and rival Henri Matisse who famously painted depictions of views through an open window.
