Masovian Culture Spring

Waldemar Swierzy was the most prolific Polish poster artist of all time - creating around 2000 posters across his lifetime - including one of the world’s most iconic and sought after film posters, ‘Midnight Cowboy’, in 1973. He loved painting portraits and his series of great jazz musicians were hugely popular and brought him international fame. He also designed over 250 album sleeves and book covers. Swierzy was an incredibly versatile artist with a love of colour and a wonderfully playful painterly style. He was always drawing and painting and has a staggering catalogue of beautiful unpublished works. It’s no exaggeration to say he was a true artistic genius and a legend of the Polish School of Posters. Despite winning many awards and a good deal of admiration during his lifetime, he remained charming and humble, and was always proud to call Poland his home.
